Nut mylks (yes with a Y!) are fast becoming the choice for many people across the world. With a long list of nutritional benefits and much kinder to the environment, many of us are starting to switch to plant based mylks. However not all mylks are created equally and not all have the same ingredients, so ALWAYS ALWAYS read the labels!!
We started our range of mylks simply as I have a very (and I mean VERY) fussy 5 year old who pretty much has a raw vegan diet (by choice!). I wasn’t particularly keen on giving him much dairy but when I started buying dairy alternatives I soon reached the conclusion that there was hardly any nutrition in them. Most of them contain between 1 and 3% nuts and to make them last long they have stabilizers and oils added. So we wanted to create not only a yummy product but also a highly nutritional one.
Our mylk contains a whooping 16% almonds (this is what makes it so creamy) and as a result the protein content is very high… an amazing 15.5 gr of protein per 500 ml!! It is very versatile, so below you will find my top 5 uses:
1. USE IT HOT!
This is my to go to hot drink in the winter months. Yes you can heat up fresh almond mylk, but you cannot boil it (as it is raw and will split).
To make GOLDEN MYLK simply warm up a cup of almond mylk and mix it with 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, a pinch of pepper, a dash of cinnamon and a bit of local honey.
2. TO MAKE SMOOTHIES
My kids literally kill for them! add a banana, some frozen berries or some cacao powder and you have the most delicious and nutritious smoothie in the world!
3. ON THE GO MEAL
As stated above, due to our high nut content (16%), a bottle of our raw mylk makes the perfect ‘no time to stop’ on the go meal. The combination of good fats and protein from the nuts will stop your blood sugar levels dropping too low.
4. FOR BREAKFAST
With your cereal or granola… simply yummy!
5. IN MASH POTATOES!
Have you ever had a vegan mash potato? no??? .. then you haven’t lived 🙂
Mash your spuds, add a dash of almond mylk, some olive oil and for a cheesy taste add 2 tablespoons of nutritional yeast!.
